Jaguar Jonze Shares “Little Fires”

“..nothing short of a manifold visionary” (Flaunt), Brisbane-based singer, producer, songwriter, and multimedia artist Jaguar Jonze (real name Deena Lynch) releases “Little Fires,” out today via Nettwerk Records. At the hands of the “colossally powerful” (CLOUT)Jaguar Jonze, “Little Fires” captures a newfound vulnerability that embodies resilience, sacrifice, and remaining strong for those around you.
Jaguar Jonze says, “Little Fires is a reminder about where we’ve come from, what we are fighting for, and what we can achieve when we work together. And it’s a reminder that we are not alone. I wanted my Eurovision song to be for those moments where it was hard to stay strong, for those times I felt overwhelmed by what I had taken on.
“I am constantly defining what vulnerability means to me. Growing up, vulnerability was seen as a weakness, but now to me, I see vulnerability as strength. And I’m seeing this reflected in my lyrics and songwriting. Little Fires is a moment for me to share a vulnerable side of me that I haven’t before.”
Setting herself up on “camp mode,” Jaguar Jonze spent a month locked away and ended up writing several new tracks. The final result, “‘Little Fires,” is a songwritten by Jaguar Jonze, PJ Harding(Noah Cyrus, Ruel), and LouisSchoorl(Jessica Mauboy, Kate Miller-Heidke, Kesha). “I searched every corner of my heart and mind to push myself to do my best work,” she explains. Working with her band members Aidan Hogg (producer/bass), Joseph Fallon (guitar/string arrangement), and Jacob Mann (drums), collectively, they knew that “Little Fires” was the song that would allow Jaguar Jonze to realize her vision and share her message. “Everyone involved in the process matched me in the heart and soul they gave.” The track features a one-take recording of Jaguar Jonze’s commanding vocals, as well as a tear-jerking string performance from the Black Square Quartet.
“Little Fires”follows on from her “powerful” (Rolling Stone) single “CUT,” which highlighted a new light, hilarious and slightly maniac side to Jaguar Jonze, receiving praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, MTV, NME, and BBC Radio 1 Future Artists with Jack Saunders.
Recently highlighted as a BBC Radio 1’s Future Artist, for the last 18 months, Jaguar Jonze has become a public vessel for change and accountability in Australia’s #MeToo movement. In honor of her advocacy to raise awareness on discrimination and abuse within the music industry and pushing practitioners to operate in a safe and respectful environment, Jaguar Jonze was awarded the Triple J Done Good Award, AIR Outstanding Achievement Award, and named one of the 21 Most Inspiring Women of 2021 by Vogue Australia. Jaguar Jonze continues her advocacy work, including the group that commissioned the Music Industry Review of sexual harm, sexual harassment, and systemic discrimination in the contemporary Australian music industry and recommendations for reform.
